Whether you're looking to earn a diploma or simply immerse yourself in a year of inspiration and creativity as part of the Agora Community, this is the course for you!
from wherever you want!
With the new Diploma in Experimental Photography, we offer a structured, 12-month academic year program culminating in a diploma awarded by the Experimentalphotofestival Association. To make the experience more fluid and effective for all students, the curriculum is divided into three progressive sections: the first offers an overview of experimental techniques; the second, a practical specialization selected by the student; and finally, the program culminates with the completion and presentation of a final project supervised by our director, Pablo Giori.

What will you learn in the first block?
Experimental techniques
The first block covers eight months dedicated to learning 62 experimental techniques at four levels: Exploring (Creative Photography, Cyanotype, Multiple Exposure, Film Swap, Film Soup, Redscale, Chemigrams, Pinhole and Solarigraphy) to Intermediate levels (Experimental Printing, Intervened Photography, Photoembroidery, Advanced Pinhole, Advanced Solarigraphy, Analemma, Experimental Polaroid, Anthotype, Chlorotype, Lumen Print, Alchemography and Advanced Chemigrams), Advanced (Intervention, Collage, Ecological Photography Techniques, Experimental 3D, Digital Art, Experimental Polaroid, Experimental Cinema, and Scanography), and Professional (Photo Transfer, Mordançage, Tricolor Cyanotype, Phytograms, Metallic Photoserigraphy, Advanced Chemigrams, Photobooks, and Exhibitions). Participants will explore a wide range of approaches, starting from the very basics and progressing to the complexity of the interaction between them. During these courses, access is provided to information resources, pre-recorded workshops and lectures with international artists that are organized thematically. This comprehensive understanding of the techniques and photosensitivity of different materials is fundamental to understanding experimental photography as a whole.

Specialization Course
We continue our Diploma journey! Once the first block of Experimental Techniques is completed, the second two-month Specialization phase begins 🤓 All Specialization courses are pre-recorded and taught by expert instructors, so each student can learn at their own pace, return to the lessons as often as needed, and enjoy the process. Each course offers the opportunity to explore a particular approach in depth, giving students the tools and knowledge necessary to develop their own practice within this field.
The courses to choose from are:
-
Historical techniques: from an introductory course (negatives, Van Dyke Brown, Salted Paper, Albumen) to advanced techniques such as Wet Collodion, Argyrotype, Kallitype or Gum Bichromate.
-
Solar printing: natural light processes such as Chlorotype, Anthotype and Cyanotype.
-
Creative photography: multiple visual play techniques such as multiple exposures, panoramas, film soup, light leaks, collage, stop motion, among many others.
-
Experimental digital art: tools like Blender, character creation and animation, Grease Pencil, nodes and sequences in Python.
What our students say!

Connecting with like-minded artists passionate about experimental photography has been invaluable.

I started at Ágora two years ago with a collective mentorship, which was decisive in my artistic journey.

My experience in the Agora Diploma has already opened new layers and dimensions in my photographic work.
Third and final block
Mentorship and Final Project
To obtain their diploma, the student will develop a personal project during the last two months of the program, integrating what they learned in the theoretical and practical classes. To properly develop their projects, participants will receive guidance in the form of two project reviews with Pablo Giori before submitting it for presentation.
Successes of our students
Upon completion of the program, the student's project will be incorporated into our Experimental Online Library, and a project will be selected annually to be exhibited individually during the next edition of the Experimental Photo Festival in Barcelona.
