El Fotolibro Latinoamericano

Fernández Martínez

The idea of studying Latin American photobooks originated at the first Latin American Photography Forum, held at the Instituto Cultural Itaú in São Paulo in 2007. Over the following three years, Horacio Fernández conducted extensive research in major cities across Latin America, where he met booksellers, scholars, collectors, and, above all, photographers, designers, and editors. The quality and originality of the photobooks discovered allowed for the publication of this book on the subject. The Latin American photobook includes one hundred and fifty works of great richness and complexity, revealing the significant contributions that Latin America has made to the history of the photobook, as well as some of the best-kept secrets of photography history. This is a critical study that provides relevant information about the authors and the social, cultural, and political context of the presented photobooks, which are reproduced with the greatest graphic display and constitute the most outstanding production from the origin of the photobook in Latin America to the present day.
