Photographie als künstlerisches Experiment

Rotzler, Willy

I found this book recently in Lucerne and it is in German (which I cannot speak), but luckily the photos really do speak for themselves. If you are interested in experimental and surrealist photography, then this book is for you. It is hardback and 95 pages long. It covers work by: William Henry Fox Talbot, Hippolyte Bayard, D.O. Hill and R. Adamson, Oscar Gustave Rejlander, Julia Margaret Cameron, Henri Le Secq, Henry Peach Robinson, Camille-Baptiste Corot, Charles Francois Daubigny, Theodore Rousseau, Jean Francois Millet, Eadweard Muybridge, Etienne Jules Maray, Antoine Giulio Bragaglia, Kurt Schwitters, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Christian Schad, Raoul Hausmann, Hannah Höch, Man Ray, John Heartfield, Max Ernst, Lászlò Moholy-Nagy, Herbert Bayer, E.L.T. Mesens, Francis Bruguière, and Paul Citroën. Nope, I have not heard of many of them either, but if you are interested in old experimental photography, after seeing some of these images, you may well discover new artists you didn't know of. The work featured does not go later than the 1930s.
