Fotografía en España 1839-2015
Vega, Carmelo
The history of Spanish photography has built its own conceptual and methodological framework over the last four decades, blending the model of general histories with specific national responses and the particularities of regional or local significance. After overcoming the initial historiographical gaps, the new history of photography is primarily concerned with the study and review of the sources and methods used, updating approaches, proposing new areas of debate, and opening other avenues for historical analysis of photography as a social and cultural phenomenon. In addition to its function as a sum and synthesis of the most significant aspects of photography in our country, organized around a chronological structure that allows for a better visualization of the sequential trace of certain approaches and ideas, "Photography in Spain (1839-2015): History, Trends, Aesthetics" proposes a journey through the main arguments and aesthetic discourses that have defined the development and evolution of Spanish photography, from its origins to the present, attempting to unveil, delve into, and interpret the different artistic directions, major currents of opinion, and critical strategies that, whether connected to or divergent from the pathways of international photography, have succeeded one another over time.
