Am Rande der Fotografie
Steidl, Katharina
Why is there a history of photography but not a history of the photogram? Based on an analysis of photography historiography, which places photogram works in a "prehistory", the publication is particularly dedicated to the exclusion of women as producers of cameraless photographs: photography histories influenced by technology and art history brought "male" coded "masterpieces" to the fore . However, with the help of gender history and feminist criticism of science, the investigation breaks down such "objectifying" master narratives and makes "blind spots" visible. By including numerous case studies, she works out the historical relevance of this previously neglected medium, outside of common methods of historicization.
